1 dead, 1 hurt in shooting believed to be connected to drug deal in Todd County
The Todd County Sheriff’s Office says two people were shot — one of them fatally — in a suspected drug deal Saturday night in Long Prairie.
According to a news release, sheriff’s deputies responded to a report of a shooting around 9:18 p.m. in rural Long Prairie, and the victim’s vehicle was later stopped at the intersection of U.S. 71 and Riverside Drive.
The driver appeared to have been shot and was taken to Long Prairie Hospital. The passenger also suffered an apparent gunshot wound and was pronounced dead at the scene of the traffic stop, according to the release.
Investigation indicates that the victims had arranged to meet acquaintances for what is believed to be a drug transaction. The suspects are believed to be known to the victims, and the shooting appears to be an isolated incident, the sheriff’s office stated.
The deceased victim’s name is being withheld pending positive identification and an autopsy from the Midwest Medical Examiner’s Office.
Anyone who may have seen people or vehicles near County 38 and County 11 between 9 p.m. and 9:30 p.m. Saturday near Long Prairie is asked to contact the Todd County Sheriff’s Office.
