1 dead, 1 critically hurt after Green Line train crashes with car in St. Paul

A person is dead and another is critically injured after a Green Line train struck a vehicle Sunday afternoon in St. Paul.

According to Metro Transit, the crash happened around 4 p.m. near the Capitol/Rice Street Station.

One of the occupants of the vehicle was pronounced dead at the scene, and another was taken to Regions Hospital with critical injuries. The train operator was also taken to the hospital for a medical evaluation.

Green Line service was shut for hours down in both directions between the Union Depot and Hamline Avenue stations while crews worked to clear the scene. By 7:45 p.m., trains went back to normal service.

Metro Transit police are investigating the crash.
