‘Sophisticated’ organized crime ring targets $9M of frozen meat at packaging plants across the Midwest
Authorities say that over nine million dollars of frozen meat has been stolen from several meat packaging plants across the Midwest, including plants in Minnesota and Wisconsin.
The Lancaster County Sheriff’s Office in Nebraska worked with Homeland Security Investigations to identify at least 45 thefts of frozen meat since June of 2021.
Investigators determined that a “highly sophisticated organized criminal enterprise” targeted semi-trailers loaded with the frozen meat.
Three people from the Miami, Florida area have been arrested in connection to the thefts.
