Fishing season is officially underway in Minnesota.
Governor Tim Walz attended fishing opener on Lake Winnibigoshish on the Leech Lake Reservation Saturday morning.
Leech Lake Chairman Faron Jackson Sr. joined Walz in the boat. The governor said the fishing opener highlights the importance of fishing and the positive impact it has on our businesses, tourism and outdoor economy.
Walz also attended a ‘shore lunch’ and celebration at East Steelye Bay. The Governor’s office says he was able to catch a 21-inch walleye.
Officials are still warning people that the water is still cold and to use caution when boating and swimming.
