It’s the first of its kind in Minnesota: a conservation memorial forest.
Just outside of Scandia in the St. Croix Valley Forest, Better Place Forests — which has protected areas of land in other states — is working to restore the forest and clean up areas.
Families can purchase a tree and spread the ashes of their family member as an alternative to cemeteries.
The forest, located along Big Marine Lake, is 112 acres.
Anyone interested can go online to schedule a tour.
The forest is set to open next year.
