Man rescued from BWCA

A man was rescued Saturday night from the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness in northern Minnesota.

According to the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources, a DNR conservation officer and St. Louis County Rescue Squad rescued the man in heavy snow with temperatures in the teens.

The DNR said the man was severely hypothermic and may have not made it through the night.

The department said the man’s decision to rent an emergency communications device and use it when the situation became dire — along with rescuers’ efforts — likely saved his life.
