High algal toxin levels in Lake Cornelia, public advised to stay away

The city of Edina said Monday that high algal concentrations were detected in Lake Cornelia, which may include blue-green algae.

The public is advised to avoid contact with the water in the lake.

High levels of blue-green algae are a concern because it can produce algal toxins, which can threaten the health of pets and humans when ingested and if concentrations are high enough.

The city said it will evaluate samples from Lake Cornelia to determine the type and number of blue-green algae. Until results are available, everyone is urged to stay away from the water.
