Emerald ash borer discovered in Rice County, state officials say

The Minnesota Department of Agriculture (MDA) has confirmed the emerald ash borer has been located in Rice County.

The discovery of the beetle makes Rice County the 22nd county in the state where emerald ash borer cases have been confirmed.

The MDA was called after a Faribault public works employee noticed an ash tree with emerald ash borer symptoms. MDA staff later found an emerald ash borer larvae inside the tree.

Sings of emerald ash borers in trees include woodpecker damage and cracks in bark.
