July 19 final day to pre-register for Aug. 9 primary election

Minnesotans have less than 24 hours to pre-register for the Aug. 9 primary election.

Minnesota also allows same-day registration at poll locations. Those registering on the day of the primary should visit the secretary of state’s website to find out which identification items they need to bring.

For those voting by absentee ballot, the application deadline is Aug. 2, and ballots must be received by Aug. 9.

Voters with special circumstances related to ability, the military or impermanent residence abroad should visit this link to find the “other ways to vote” menu.

The 2022 general election ballot includes the following races: U.S. representative, governor and lieutenant governor, secretary of state, state auditor, attorney general, state senator, state representative and judicial seats.

Depending on the district, people may also be voting for county officials, city officers, school board members, township officers and local ballot questions.
