Firefighters battle blaze on Bloomington Avenue, cats rescued

Around 12:30 p.m. Friday, crews with the Minneapolis Fire Department (MFD) were called to a fire at a two-story building on the 3700 block of Bloomington Avenue.

When firefighters arrived, they found “heavy fire” in a barbershop on the ground floor of the building, and also noticed flames extending to the second-floor apartments. The MFD then issued a second alarm for the fire to bring in more resources.

Crews searched the building and also ventilated the building through the roof.

Fire officials say there were no injuries reported, and two cats were rescued from the fire.

As of 1:30 p.m., the fire had been extinguished.

The cause of the fire is unknown as of this time but is under investigation.

The American Red Cross was called to help the four adults, one child and two cats displaced by the fire.
