9-year-old girl shot in head in western Minnesota

Deputies are investigating how a 9-year-old girl was shot in the head Monday afternoon in western Minnesota.

According to the Lyon County Sheriff’s Office, emergency personnel were dispatched to a home in Lynd — a town southwest of Marshall — just after 1:30 p.m. on a report of a person who had been shot in the head.

First responders found a 9-year-old girl who had been shot in the head, and she was airlifted to a hospital from the scene. The sheriff’s office did not have any information on the girl’s condition.

The circumstances of the shooting are under investigation, and authorities say there is no threat to the public.
