Minnesota couple’s plant-based dog treat a hit, available in U.S. and Canada

Monday is National Pet Day, and one Minnesota couple is making their mark in the pet food industry.
Last year Katherine and David Ellison decided to develop a unique plant-based dog treat at their Bloomington home that tasted like meat.
Bright Planet treats have become a big hit selling at stores around the U.S. and Canada.
“It’s really been a very crazy, wild ride for us,” Katherine Ellison said. “Pretty amazing that we’re in Petco and Hy-Vee, that we’re in so many stores all across the country. It’s honestly a dream come true, [and] it’s wonderful.”
In 2021, Katherine and David Ellison decided to develop a unique plant-based dog treats at their Bloomington home that tasted like meat. The treats are now available throughout the U.S. and Canada.
The couple just received a $10,000 pet care innovation prize from the pet care company Purina.
