Wind-fueled fire destroys home in St. Paul, police evacuate 1 person and a dog
Strong winds contributed to the “rapid growth” of a fire that destroyed a home in St. Paul on Thursday, according to a news release from the St. Paul Fire Department.
Firefighters responded to a home near the intersection of Agate Street and Lawson Avenue East just before 2:30 p.m.
Police had already evacuated one person and a dog who were exposed to the fire before the fire department arrived, according to the release. No other injuries were reported.
Fire crews then began defensive operations to defend surrounding structures and remained on scene for about three hours.
The Red Cross was contacted for eight occupants who were displaced by the fire, according to the release.
The two-story residential building partially collapsed, and the Department of Safety Inspections was called to assess the structure.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
