Walz celebrates vaccination goal set by President Biden

Gov. Tim Walz announced Minnesota has reached President Joe Biden’s goal to have 70% of the population vaccinated by July 4. This percentage is for Minnesotans who are 18 and older.

For several months, KSTP has been tracking the percentage of vaccinated Minnesotans ages 16 and older. That number currently stands at 67%, according to the Minnesota Department of Health (MDH).

Over 3.03 million Minnesotans over the age of 18 have been vaccinated according to the CDC. The governor’s office says Minnesota leads the Midwest for vaccination rates. The overall U.S. population is 52% vaccinated, which will fall short of the president’s goal to have 70% of the country vaccinated by July 4.

Minnesotans can still get vaccinated without an appointment by going through the state’s vaccine connector program.
