Victim in downtown Minneapolis shooting identified
The victim in a downtown Minneapolis shooting last Wednesday has been identified.
Randall Lee Smith, 42, died of multiple gunshot wounds and his death was ruled a homicide, according to a Wednesday release from the Hennepin County Medical Examiner.
Officers from the Minneapolis Police Department initially responded to a 911 call of shots fired at 8:40 p.m. on Nov. 17. Upon arriving at the scene on Seventh Street South near 12th Avenue South, they found a man with apparent non-life-threatening gunshot wounds and he was taken to Hennepin County Medical Center.
Later that evening, however, a spokesperson for the department said his condition had deteriorated and they had added homicide investigators to the case. The medical examiner determined his time of death at 10:37 p.m.
This is the 87th homicide in the city this year, according to Minneapolis police.
Smith’s death is under investigation by the Minneapolis Police Department.
