UPDATE: 20-year-old dies after drowning in Stearns County

UPDATE: The victim, 20-year-old Steven Amaz Boose of Chicago, Illinois died early Sunday morning. Boose was in Minnesota visiting family.

A 20-year-old man is in critical condition after he was pulled from a lake Saturday afternoon northwest of St. Cloud.

The Stearns County Sheriff’s Office said it responded to a report of a possible drowning around 3:42 p.m. on Middle Spunk Lake in Avon. A caller said a male victim went missing in the swim area and was nowhere to be seen.

A Stearns County Sheriff’s sergeant was the first to arrive on scene and went in the water to try and find the victim.

Stearns County Water Patrol units and a diver were then sent out to find the man. The diver found him and brought him to shore, where first responders administered aid.

The man was airlifted to a hospital in St. Cloud. He was in critical condition as of Saturday night.
