Suspect in fatal Brooklyn Park crash makes 1st court appearance
A suspect who was arrested and charged with killing a 65-year-old man last weekend in Brooklyn Park made his first court appearance on Thursday.
Christopher Dewayne Rice, 46, had his bail set at $1 million. He remains in custody, and a psychological evaluation will be done on Rice before he appears next in court on Aug. 3.
Rice has been charged with intentional second-degree murder in the death of Paul Pfeifer after he allegedly took his girlfriend’s vehicle and intentionally drove at Pfiefer while Pfiefer was getting mail.
Rice told police he heard voices in his head telling him to strike the victim.
Rice has been in and out of hospitals due to civil commitments and mental health treatment over the past few years, court records show.
