Suspect carjacks vehicle with child inside in Inver Grove Heights, child found unharmed and safe

Inver Grove Heights Police Department reported a carjacking with a child inside the vehicle on Friday.

According to police, at 4 p.m., officers were dispatched to the 3200 block of 57th Street on a vehicle theft report and were advised there was a six-month-old child inside when the vehicle was taken.

Police stated that while officers were searching the area for the vehicle, an M Health Fairview Ambulance crew spotted the stolen vehicle and relayed information of the locations to the responding officers.

Once officers arrived, they found the child in the vehicle safe and unharmed.

According to police, before officers arrived at the scene, the suspect, 32-year-old Alberto Castillo from west St. Paul, had exited the vehicle and began to walk away from it. The officers were able to take Castillo into custody without incident.

Castillo will be held at the Dakota County Jail on probable cause of motor vehicle theft and kidnapping said police.
