Tape was put up around a bicycle in the street around 12:30 a.m. in the area of Rice Street at Maryland Avenue.

St. Paul police are investigating an incident that appears to have involved a bicycle in the North of Maryland neighborhood on Friday.

A representative from the St. Paul Police Department (SPPD) said officers were called to the 1500 block of Rice Street just after midnight on a report of a hit-and-run.

Police could be found at two different locations around 12:30 a.m. – one scene was at Rice Street and West Hoyt Avenue, and another was a couple of blocks away on Wheelock Parkway.

One of the areas had tape around a bicycle in the street.

Law enforcement officials discovered that a small, dark vehicle was traveling on Rice Street when it hit a person near the intersection of Hoyt Avenue and Rice Street.

The vehicle then sped off north on Rice Street to Wheelock Parkway where it turned and was last seen heading eastbound, said officials with SPPD.

The victim was brought to Regions Hospital with life-threatening injuries.
