St. Paul man takes historic 2 titles at Twin Cities Marathon Saturday events

A St. Paul man became the first runner to win multiple Medtronic Twin Cities Marathon Weekend titles in one year Saturday.

The race is back after a pandemic-related hiatus and 2019 Saturday lightning cancellation, and Danny Docherty secured two victories Saturday in the TC 10K and TC 5K.

Docherty finished third in the 2019 marathon. He had the fastest men’s times in Saturday’s 10K at 31 minutes and 57 seconds and the 5K at 15 minutes and 7 seconds.

Bobbi Patrick, of Mankato, had the fastest time of all women for the 10K, finishing in 38 minutes and 47 seconds. Meanwhile, Shelby Nowak of Minneapolis took the 5K title for finishing in 19 minutes.

COVID-19 precautions are in place with required masking indoors and in higher-density outdoor areas like the starting corral and finish line. More than 4,000 runners showed up Saturday, despite the rain.

The marathon weekend continues Sunday with the 10 mile and marathon events.
