St. Paul man taken to hospital after shooting in Maplewood

A man is recovering in a hospital after being shot Sunday night in Maplewood.

Maplewood Police said officers were called to the Northernaire Motel at about 11:16 p.m. after a person was reportedly suffering from a gunshot wound.

Officers found the 28-year-old St. Paul man had been shot in the leg, and he was then taken to a hospital.

A KSTP crew at the scene also reported seeing a helicopter circling the area.

Police said their investigation remains active but a person of interest has been identified. They also said they don't believe the public is in danger.

The victim remained hospitalized in serious condition Monday afternoon.
