St. Paul business damaged during early morning fire
A business in St. Paul’s Payne-Phalen neighborhood was damaged by flames early Wednesday morning.
Smoke could be seen coming out of 52 Market and Trading, a convenience store located on Arcade Street near Jenks Avenue.
The St. Paul Fire Department says crews were called to the business at around 6:15 a.m. and found a small fire outside that they quickly extinguished.
After going inside, firefighters found heavy smoke and significant damage from the fire.
The department says investigators believe the fire started earlier in the morning but was put out as oxygen ran out. That changed when the doors opened and oxygen was reintroduced.
Crews stayed at the scene for more than two hours to put out the fire and conduct overhaul, the department says.
Fortunately, nobody was inside at the time and no injuries were reported.
The cause of the fire is under investigation but isn’t believed to have been intentionally started.
