According to St. Cloud Police, officers responded to the 1500 block of Ninth Avenue North at about 1:10 p.m. Monday for a reported stabbing. Dispatchers were advised that a woman had stabbed a man at the location and that the woman was still at the scene. Officers arrived and attempted life-saving efforts before the man was taken to a hospital, where he later died. He was later identified as 36-year-old Justin Allen Berge, from St. Cloud.

Shelltrack-Miller was then arrested.

A criminal complaint states Shelltrack-Miller told investigators she got in an argument with the victim and had pepper-sprayed him. He then knocked her to the ground and was kneeling over her when she grabbed the knife and tried to nick him in the chest with it to warn him to stay away. However, surveillance video showed the victim running away from Shelltrack-Miller beforehand. After she ended up on the ground, the victim appeared to be trying to gather items from the ground when Shelltrack-Miller maced him and then made a stabbing motion toward the victim.
