St. Cloud police warn of scammers impersonating officers

Police in St. Cloud are warning residents of scammers who are calling citizens and claiming to be police officers.

St. Cloud Police said it has received several calls from residents who’ve received the scam phone calls.

The scammer claims to be a member of the police department, demands payment for overdue fines and sometimes identifies themselves using actual names of St. Cloud police officers.

Police said the scammers also use a spoofing app that makes the number appear to be the police department’s.

However, St. Cloud Police said it doesn’t collect back taxes or money for overdue fines or outstanding arrest warrants.

Anyone who is contacted by a similar scam is urged to contact St. Cloud Police at 320-251-1200 or Tri-County Crime Stoppers at 320-255-1301.
