St. Cloud police warn of phone scam in which caller impersonates officers
Police in St. Cloud are warning residents of a phone scam making the rounds recently.
According to the St. Cloud Police Department, residents reported being contacted by a person who claims to be a police officer and then asks for personal information such as social security and financial numbers.
The department said police wouldn’t ask for personal or financial information, especially not over the phone. The scam also appears to be using a spoofing technique that makes the calls appear to be coming from the police department.
Police reminded citizens to not give out personal information over the phone, and if you become suspicious of a caller to hang up immediately.
Anyone who believes they’ve been a victim of any scam is urged to contact the police at 320-251-1200.
