St. Cloud murder suspect makes first court appearance

A 43-year-old man made his initial court appearance Monday on charges connected to the murder of a man in November in southeast St. Cloud.

According to the Sherburne County Sheriff’s Office, Ricco Dejon Tyson, 43, is charged with second-degree murder and first- and second-degree manslaughter in the death of Tyler Ecklund.

Ecklund, 25, was found outside in a vacant lot in the 1000 block of 55th Avenue Southeast on the evening of Nov. 14. An autopsy revealed that he had died of a gunshot wound to the head.

A joint investigation between the Sherburne County Sheriff’s Office, St. Cloud police and the Bureau of Criminal Apprehension identified Tyson as the person who shot Ecklund.

At Monday’s hearing, Sherburne County District Judge Walter Kaminsky set bail for Tyson at $2 million without conditions and $1 million with several conditions.
