St. Cloud man arrested after reported assault, hour-long standoff
A St. Cloud man was arrested Monday after a standoff began when officers responded to a reported domestic assault.
St. Cloud police said officers were called on a report of a man chasing and repeatedly physically assaulting a woman outside a home along the 6700 block of 322nd Street at about 3:52 p.m.
When they arrived, officers made contact with a 46-year-old woman and determined the suspect had run back into the home. Police said the suspect made comments that he wouldn't go back to jail and he'd harm himself.
Police determined the woman had been assaulted and there was an active court-ordered domestic assault no-contact order in place. Then, police were able to determine the man was inside the home alone. A perimeter was set up and officers began talking with the man from a distance.
According to police, after about an hour of conversation with the suspect, he was taken into custody. He was identified as 47-year-old Gabriel Alcala Gomez.
Police said the victim didn't require medical attention. Gomez was taken to a hospital for assessment and then taken to Stearns County Jail.
