Spring burning restrictions put in place due to fire risk in 7 Minn. counties
A number of counties in northern Minnesota have issued open burning restrictions due to wildfire risks, according to the state’s Department of Natural Resources.
The burn restriction applies to Beltrami, Cass, Clearwater, Itasca, Mahnomen, Polk and Red Lake counties.
The ban comes as the area of the state is experiencing warm, dry weather conditions.

Burning permits for brush or yard waste will not be issued until restrictions are lifted.
"Escaped debris burns are the number one cause of wildfires. That’s why we issue these restrictions," said Casey McCoy, DNR fire prevention supervisor. "They really work — we’ve reduced wildfires by nearly a third since we started spring burning restrictions."
