SPPD to hold clinic to help drivers protect catalytic converters, license plates
This weekend, police in St. Paul will hold a drive-thru clinic to help drivers protect two frequently stolen items: catalytic converters and license plates.
St. Paul Police said 560 catalytic converter thefts have been reported in the city this year, an average of almost six per day.
On Saturday, April 10, from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., members of the department will be in the north lot of Allianz Field to mark catalytic converters and install theft-prevention screws in license plates.
Police said many scrap yards won’t buy marked catalytic converters, making them less appealing to thieves.
The event is free and open to the public.
Registration is encouraged but not required. The department said the event will be postponed if there is inclement weather.
