Sheriff: Person brought possibly live mortar to bar in Nimrod

A mortar that possibly dates back to the Korean War era and may have been live was taken to a bar in Nimrod, authorities said.

According to the Wadena County Sheriff’s Office, a person reported finding a mortar that was possibly live at about 3:31 p.m. Sunday.

The caller told deputies they’d taken the mortar to Nimrod Bar to show others.

Law enforcement arrived and took possession of the mortar. The individuals told law enforcement they’d been using a metal detector at the Shell City bridge.

The sheriff’s office said it was unclear if the mortar was live or not, but it will be disposed of safely.
