Search underway after man goes underwater in Wisconsin river

Authorities are searching for a man who went missing after they say he went underwater while swimming in western Wisconsin.

The Menomonie Police Department says multiple agencies were called to Riverside Park just before 3:30 p.m. Tuesday after a 23-year-old man was reported missing after going underwater while he swam in the Red Cedar River.

Friends told police they tried to save the man but couldn’t get to him in time.

Police, fire and rescue crews and others from the Dunn County Sheriff’s Office, Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources and Northstar Search and Rescue continued searching for the man Wednesday morning, but still haven’t found him.

Police later identified the man as Louis Y Adorno Burgos.
