Red Lake man to serve time in prison, supervised release for shooting 2 people
A Red Lake man will serve time in prison for shooting two people on the Red Lake Reservation last year.
According to federal court officials, 21-year-old Brennon Sayers will serve seven years in prison, as well as three years of supervised release, for the May 5, 2021 shooting.
Sayers pleaded guilty to two counts of assault resulting in serious bodily injury earlier this year, according to officials.
Federal prosecutors say Sayers was arguing with his girlfriend in a vehicle outside a home on the reservation when one of the victims came out of his home across the street and told Sayers to stop arguing and fighting.
Another person, who was walking down the road, encountered the interaction between Sayers and the person who came outside.
Eventually, prosecutors say Sayers pulled out a gun and began shooting at both of the people who had encountered the argument and hit both of them.
Sayers then left the area and was eventually found at his mother’s home.
He was sentenced Monday.
