Tuesday, the Ramsey County Board of Commissioners voted to approve funding for emergency shelters.
The measure sought an additional loan of up to $5.8 million from the county’s general fund to help support the “Homeless Shelter Project.”
The amount was a far cry from the $73 million first requested from the Minnesota Legislature.
Last month, members of the the Ramsey County Board of Commissioners announced there were preparations to close some of the emergency shelters that opened during the pandemic if additional funding didn’t come through.
The decision Tuesday now provides cashflow for the county to operate two remaining shelters—Mary Hall and Luther Seminary’s Stub Hall through June 22.
