Public hearing to be held Wednesday on St. Paul’s final decision for Pig’s Eye Lake

The St. Paul City Council is hosting a public hearing Wednesday for community members to weigh in on the city’s final decision on Pig’s Eye Lake.

The hearing is part of an ongoing debate of how to improve the area along the Mississippi River.

As previously reported, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers got backing from the Department of Natural Resources to build six new islands on the lake as part of an effort to reduce shoreline erosion and restore habitats for migrating birds, as well as other animals.

However, a group against the project wants the city to step in and stop it.

Wednesday’s hearing is happening during the city council meeting, which is scheduled to start at 3:30 p.m.
