Motorcyclist killed in early morning Edina crash identified

UPDATE 9:20 p.m. – The woman who died in a motorcycle crash in Edina Wednesday morning has been identified by the Minnesota State Patrol.

Tammee Sue Ponder, 51, of Lakeville, died after the crash.


UPDATE 11:15 a.m. – Authorities say a woman has died following an early morning crash Wednesday in Edina.

According to the Minnesota State Patrol, troopers were called to the westbound lanes of Highway 62 at France Avenue around 6:40 a.m.

An incident report states a motorcycle being driven by a a 51-year-old Lakeville woman was headed west in the left hand lane of Highway 62 when it began drifting to the left shoulder.

That’s where authorities say the motorcycle hit the guardrail, causing the rider to be ejected to the left of the roadway.

The woman, whose name hasn’t been provided, was the only person riding the motorcycle.

No other vehicles were involved in the crash, which caused the section of roadway to close for hours during the morning commute.

Road conditions were listed as dry at the time of the crash.

Additional details are expected to be released early Wednesday evening.

Early Wednesday, the Minnesota State Patrol reported a crash near France Avenue was fatal, and shut down the westbound lanes in the area.

The road reopened shortly before 9 a.m.

No details about the crash have been released as of this update.

INITIAL REPORT 8 a.m. – Authorities say they are investigating a fatal crash in Edina Wednesday morning.

According to the Minnesota State Patrol, the crash happened on westbound Highway 62 at France Avenue.

As of 8 a.m., traffic management cameras show a section of the road has been shut down, and traffic was backed up near Xerxes Avenue.

According to the Minnesota Department of Transportation, the road is expected to be closed until about 10 a.m.

No other details about the crash have been released by the state patrol at this time.
