Police find suspicious device while executing search warrant in Hastings

Police say officers found a suspicious package while serving a search warrant Thursday morning in Hastings.

According to the Hastings Police Department, a possible explosive device was found around 5:30 a.m. in a home on the 800 block of 10th Street West.

Officers and agents with the Dakota County Drug Task Force left the building and evacuated other residents in neighboring apartments. Residents in a house next door were also asked to leave for their safety, police said. No other homes were evacuated.

The St. Paul Police Department Bomb Squad arrived at the scene around 8:30 a.m., secured the block and removed the device for disposal.

Officers then got back to searching the home and arrested an unnamed male suspect on outstanding warrants. The suspect also faces new charges related to Thursday’s incident.

The block was reopened around 9:20 a.m. and all displaced residents have been told they can return to their homes, police said.

The incident remains under investigation.
