Police: 1 in custody after car intentionally set on fire in South St. Paul

Authorities say one person was taken into custody after a car was intentionally set on fire in South St. Paul.

South St. Paul police say a car was set on fire in the back yard of a residence in the 800 block of Seventh Avenue South shortly before 2 p.m. on Thursday.

When officers and fire crews arrived at the scene, the vehicle was fully engulfed in flames.

The South Metro Fire Department was able to extinguish the fire.

Police located the suspect, a 35-year-old man from St. Paul, a few blocks away and quickly took him into custody.

Authorities say the victim and suspect know each other.

The case is being investigated by the South St. Paul Police Department and South Metro Fire.
