Plymouth police chief to retire in late January

Plymouth Police Chief Mike Goldstein is set to retire on Jan. 29 after working for the city for more than 30 years.

Goldstein, a Plymouth native, joined the Plymouth Police Department in 1990, according to the city.

After numerous promotions, he became chief in 2004.

“I chose to work for and stay with Plymouth because it’s what I know – it’s about having roots in the community and serving family and friends,” Goldstein said. “But it’s mostly about the people I’ve had the opportunity to work with – these are the women and men I want to be with, and I’ve never taken that for granted.”

During his time with the department, Goldstein pioneered a mandated mental health check-in for first responders, worked on a number of programs to boost transparency and public education and served as president of the Minnesota Chiefs of Police Association, the city said.

The city did not detail its plans to replace Goldstein.
