Plowy McPlowface? Voting opens in MnDOT snowplow naming contest

The Minnesota Department of Transportation (MnDOT) has revealed the 50 finalists in its "Name a Snowplow" contest.

MnDOT said staff and leadership selected the finalists out of roughly 24,000 entries. The "judges" tried to focus on names that were submitted frequently, understandable to a wide audience or were particularly creative or Minnesota-centric.

Some notable submissions include Plow Bunyan, Dontcha Snow, Duck Duck Orange Truck and Plowy McPlowface — an homage to the British research vessel R.R.S. Boaty McBoatface, which was named in a similar online contest.

Voting is open now through 5 p.m. Feb. 26. Each person can vote once for up to eight finalists.

The eight winners — one for each MnDOT district — will be announced early next month.
