Pipe bomb found, defused on side of road in rural Rush City
Authorities are investigating after a pipe bomb was located on the side of a road Wednesday in rural Rush City.
The Chisago County Sheriff's Office said it was notified of a suspicious item found on the side of Evergreen Avenue between Rush Lake Road and Rush Point Drive. A deputy responded and found a small pipe bomb with an intact fuse.
According to the sheriff's office, the area was closed off and Rush City School officials were contacted for precautionary reasons. Several buses were also re-routed out of an abundance of caution.
The St. Paul Bomb Squad was called and defused the bomb at the scene.
The sheriff's office said much of the device was able to be maintained for further processing and evidence is being analyzed.
Anyone with information is asked to contact Investigator Swenson at 651-213-6355.
The situation was "an excellent example of seeing something and saying something," the department said.
