A Twin Cities church is celebrating the installation of its new senior pastor.
On Sunday, Rev. Jia Starr Brown became the 12th senior pastor at First Covenant Church in Minneapolis.
Brown’s confirmation is historic — she is not only the first woman to lead the nearly 150-year-old congregation, but she is also the first Black person and first gay person to serve in this role.
"This message is to say … something we want to share with the church. We are a part of the church," Brown said.
Brown’s installation as senior pastor comes two years after First Covenant Church was excommunicated from the Evangelical Covenant Church over its acceptance of the LGBTQ+ community.
