The Brooklyn Police Department says dozens of gunshots were fired amongst a group at the memorial site where a 17-year-old was killed on Tuesday.

Police say at about 11 p.m. Tuesday, hours after the 17-year-old was shot and killed, a large group of individuals attended a memorial at 5700 Brookdale Drive for the victim. Officers were sent to the memorial site on a report of numerous gunshots as the memorial reportedly became violent.

It was determined that several groups of individuals were exchanging gunfire and at least one of the weapons used is believed to be fully automatic, according to authorities.

An investigation determined that over 50 rounds of ammunition had been fired in the incident, striking "many" vehicles, according to police. After the shooting, the crowd became unruly and resources from other police agencies had to be called in to assist.

Three adults and one minor were arrested for rioting and weapon violations, police said.

The Gold Key strip mall, where the homicide occurred, will close at 6 p.m. due to the ongoing violence in the area. Bishop Harding Smith will lead the victim’s family in a memorial service that will include a call to stop the violence. That event will start at 5 p.m.
