No-wake zones posted after recent rain in Stearns County

Following a few days of heavy rain, no-wake zones have been posted in parts of Stearns County.

The Stearns County Sheriff’s Office says the high water levels triggered the county ordinance restricting wakes within 300 feet of shore on the following lakes:

  • Grass Lake
  • Clearwater Lake
  • Augusta Lake
  • Carolina Lake
  • Lake Maria
  • Lake Louisa

Additionally, several other lakes have posted emergency no-wake zones, including:

  • Carnelian Lake
  • Beaver Lake
  • Two Rivers Lake
  • The Sauk River Chain of Lakes

With the no-wake postings, the sheriff’s office is asking the public to reduce boat speeds, as wakes with the high water conditions could cause damage to shorelines, docks, lifts and homes. Some lake accesses and parking lots may also be affected by flooding.

“We hope everyone has a safe and enjoyable (fishing) opener and is mindful of the high-water issues,” Sheriff Steve Soyka said.
