Newport woman in critical condition after apartment shooting

A Newport woman remains in critical condition after she was shot in her apartment and taken to the hospital Saturday, law enforcement officials said.

The shooting occurred shortly after 7 a.m. on the 1700 block of Eighth Avenue in Newport, according to the Washington County Sheriff’s Office.

A man is in custody in connection with the isolated incident.

The incident is under investigation.
