New features at Target Field were unveiled Tuesday ahead of the Minnesota Twins home opener scheduled for this week.
Among the amenities are a new sensory suite—which is designed to make going to games more inclusive for people with sensory sensitivities like autism—as well as “The Market,” an open-air walk-through spot for people to grab hot or pre-made food.
Team officials say the sensory suite will be located in what was formerly known as “Suite 1”, and is available for children and adults. In addition, sensory kits will be available for guests to check out at various Guest Services stations throughout Target Field for no cost.
Meanwhile, “The Market” will have pre-packaged grab-and-go items inside Gate 6, located down the leftfield line. There will also be a walk-in cooler that features canned craft beers at The Market.
The team and its food providers also announced new options for people to enjoy, announcing the following will be available this season:
- Mac’s Fish – Hand-battered walleye with sea salt and jalapeno-lime tartar sauce with french fries.
- Roots for the Home Team – Youth-driven specialty salads with ingredients grown and harvested by local farmers.
- Bub’s Gourmet Aussie Pies – Australian-inspired pies including Chicken Wild Rice and Sloppy Joe.
- Upcycle Foods – The Italian Grinder sandwich includes capicola, mortadella, ham, salami and provolone cheese on a baked pretzel bun.
- Blue Door Pub – Cease and Desist Burger featuring white and yellow American cheeses topped with lettuce, onions and ‘Merican sauce.
- La Tapatia – Adobo Chicken Tacos in soft corn tortillas in either street or Cali-style.
- Soul Bowl – The Henry Sandwich (barbecue-braised beef, coleslaw, potato chips and a potato roll) and Summer Bowl (barbecue-braised beef, Cajun corn and Return of the mack and Cheese).
- Turkey To Go – turkey sandwiches like the ones found at the Minnesota State Fair.
- Hot Indian – New items include Chicken Tikka (seasoned, yogurt-marinated chicken breast simmered in a creamy tomato curry and served with brown rice, cilantro, HI Slaw and pappadum) and Vegan Channa Masala (chickpeas and Indian seasonings simmered into a mild and flavorful curry; served with brown rice, pappadum, cilantro and HI Slaw).
- Food Building – The official grilled cheese sandwich will be found here and is made from bread and cheese made inside the Food Building.
- We Are Nuts – Craft-roasted nuts and treats in small batches.
The team hopes these changes will keep fans coming back to Target Field.
“We’ve renovated, we’ve enhanced every year aimed at meeting fans where they are and making sure every year there’s something new, something exciting, and something fun,” Twins spokesperson Matt Hodson said.
There will also be family-friendly prices offered at a pair of concession stands in sections 133 and 327 that will have hot dogs, soft pretzels, popcorn, peanuts, soda and canned beer – all for under $5 each.
Currently, Opening Day is scheduled for Thursday, however, the game may need to be moved due to the weather forecast, which isn’t calling for baseball weather. The team’s president and CEO, Dave St. Peter, was asked about it on Twitter. He says they are watching it closely, and any decision to shift it will come at least 24 hours in advance.
If the game does get moved to Friday, fans will have their tickets for Thursday’s game honored.
