New acting US Attorney for District of Minnesota named
A new acting U.S. Attorney for the District of Minnesota has been named.
Charles J. Kovats will serve as the acting U.S. Attorney for Minnesota, following the departure of former acting U.S. Attorney W. Anders Folk. Folk is stepping down to take a position with the Office of the Deputy Attorney General in Washington, D.C.
Kovats has served as the criminal division chief for the U.S. Attorney for the District of Minnesota’s office since 2018. From 2010, Kovats served as a prosecutor until he joined the U.S. Attorney’s Office as the national security section chief. He was then selected in 2012 to serve on the Defense Legal Policy Board in Washington, D.C.
Kovats also served for seven years in the U.S. Army Judge Advocate General’s Corps. He received his B.A. from Santa Clara University in 1992 and earned his law degree in 1996 from the University of San Francisco School of Law.
