The spring break rush hasn't even started yet.

However, on Tuesday morning, parking at Terminal 1 at Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport was already filled to capacity. Some travelers were being rerouted to Terminal 2.

"We plan ahead so we are not in a huge hurry," traveler Kris Koktan said. "When you travel with kids, every minute counts."

This is the first year airport officials are recommending travelers go online and pre-book their parking.

"Parking at Terminal 1 does fill up, and then we divert people," John Welbes, with the Metropolitan Airports Commission, said. "If you pre-book, you can avoid that and have a spot waiting for you."

The online system launched in October. Travelers prepay online with their credit cards to reserve a spot and are given a confirmation code upon entry.
