MPD investigating Saturday non-fatal shooting of toddler

A three-year-old girl was shot Saturday night at a residence on the 2200 Block of 5 Ave N in Minneapolis, police said.

According to Minneapolis Police Department, officers from the 4th Precinct responded to a report of shots fired outside of the residence just after 10 p.m. Officers found the toddler, who had a non-life-threatening gunshot wound, inside a residence.

EMS brought the girl to the hospital and she was held only for observation, police said.

The department said that homicide investigators responded to the scene as well, due to the potential seriousness of the injuries given the victim’s age. Forensic scientists from the department’s Forensics Division processed the scene and collected evidence, police said.

No arrests have been made as of Sunday afternoon and MPD said it is still investigating the shooting.
