Missing Redwood County man found dead after fleeing an alleged attempted assault

A missing Redwood County man who was reported missing on Jan. 27 was found dead on Jan. 31 after fleeing an alleged attempted assault.

According to a release from the Lower Sioux Police Department, 21-year-old Quincy Schaffer was located dead on Jan. 31 in a wooded area behind a residence in the Lower Sioux Indian Community.

An autopsy found no significant injuries indicating assault. Hypothermia was determined to be a contributing factor in his death.

While investigating the disappearance, police were informed about an alleged attempted assault at a residence in the community that caused Schaffer to flee the home. No one in the residence required medical attention and the incident was not reported until the investigation of Schaffer’s disappearance began.

The investigation into this incident is ongoing.
