A new Miss Minnesota USA was crowned this weekend.

Katarina Spasojevic, from Minnetonka, received the title.

Over two dozen contestants were vying for the spot.

5 EYEWITNESS NEWS spoke with Spasojevic after the pageant and she had some advice for anyone thinking about competing.

"It’s a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity and I honestly encourage every young woman to get out there and try it, please do because this is only my second year competing and miracles do happen," she said.

Spasojevic will now go on to compete in the Miss USA 2021 competition in Tulsa, Oklahoma, on November 29.

From there, the Miss USA title winner will compete for the ultimate crown: Miss Universe.

Mikayla Holmgren was also a big winner Sunday night, taking home the People’s Choice and Spirit awards.

Holmgren made history in 2017 by becoming the first woman with Down syndrome to compete in the pageant.
